Arsene Lupin was originally a four part play by French author Maurice Leblanc, performed in 1908. It was turned into a novel by Edgar Jepson and published in 1909. Chronologically, it comes between The Hollow Needle and 813, but isn't usually considered to be part of the Lupin series. The book tells the story of Germaine de Gournay-Martin, a snobbish young woman, belonging to a wealthy family, who is finally going to marry the penniless Jacques, Duke of Charmerace. Except Jacques is not who he claims to be.
